Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is adisease that prevents your body from properly using the energy from the food you eat, It is a group of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Diabetes is due to either the pancreas not producing enough insulin, or the cells of the body not responding properly to the insulin produced. This diseases takes hold of the person gradually. For years patient remains oblivious of the diseases.
Causes
- Constant consumption of heavy, oily, and sweet products,
- Family history of diabetes or inherited tendency,
- Lack of physical work,
- Being overweight (obesity),
- Excess of mental work,
- Indigestion,
- Worries,
- Agitation,
- Physical stress (such as surgery or illness),
- Use of certain medications, including steroids and blood pressure medications.
- Injury to the pancreas (such as infection, tumour,
surgery, or accident), - Autoimmune disease,
- High blood pressure,
- Age (risk increases with age),
- Alcohol (risk increases with years of heavy alcohol
use), - Smoking,
- History of gestational diabetes or delivery of a baby
weighing more than 9 pounds (4.1 Kg), - Pregnancy, etc.
Symptoms
- More glucose in the urine than normal.
- The urge to urinate again and again , urine is thick and sticky,
- Increased thirst, and increased hunger.
- Skin gets dry, fatigue and weakness is experienced,
- Unexplained weight loss,
- Healing of wounds is delayed,
- Itching in the body,
- Laziness, headache and irritability, etc.
Warning- If left untreated diabetes can cause many complications, high blood pressure, heart diseases, gangrene, reducing hearing power, paralysis, chronic kidney disease, foot ulcers, and damage to the eyes.
Treatment
- Yoga – pranayama, uddiyanbandh, breathing exercises, ardhmatsyendrasana, mayaurasana, halasana, mandookasana, koormasana, bhoomsasana, surya namaskar, garbhasana, tribandhasana, padhastsana, etc.

Food to eat in diabities
- Seasonal fruits – orange, apple, pear, papaya,
watermelon, melon, guava, pineapple, etc. - Salads – carrot, reddish, turnip, cucumber, long cucumber,
spinach, mint, coriander, cabbage, beans, capsicum, etc. - Sprouts – moong, moth, and gram, etc. Fruit juices and
vegetables juices. If one is thirsty then drink lemon water or coconut water. - Fresh amla juice or dry amla powder with turmeric
powder is very beneficial.
- In the season of blackberry (jamun) it must be eaten
or half a spoon of blackberry seed powder should be taken with water in the
evening. - 15gm of bitter
gourd (karela) juice with 100gm of water can be taken daily thrice a day for
three months. - Wheat grass juice helps in a great deal.
- One spoon full of methi seeds should be soaked in
water and eaten and then water should be consumed or make methi powder and take
one spoonful daily. - 250gm of ladyfinger(bhindi) cut into two pieces then soak
in water for a night and in the morning drink that water and throw away the
ladyfinger. Do this for a week. - Daily take 5-10 bel leaves or sadabahar leaves, jamun
leaves or margosa leaves work wonders in diabeties. - Basil leaves are also beneficial. It reduces sugar.
- Daily in the morning drink at least two glasses of
water and eat two figs. - Eat chappati made of flour from the mixture of 25%
wheat, 25% barley, 10% moong, 10% baajra, 10% phaphar (kuttoo), 10% gram, 5%
soyabean and 5% corn. - Sit bare bodied in sunshine.
- Walk for 4-5 kilometers daily in fresh air and jogging
for a while. Try to do deep breathing in fresh air.
Harmful foods- sugar, ice-cream, sweets, etc. Ghee butter, cold drinks, fried, stuff, non vegetarian foods, liquor, sugar, free tablets, and stuff made up of maida.
Note:-
cause diabetes. Eating a lot of sugar can lead to tooth decay, but it does not
cause diabetes.
